Just as the signs in quadrant to each other have a similar dignity as being movable, fixed and dual, the houses in quadrants to each other also have a similar dignity depending on the lagna rising in the chart.
THE QUADRANTS
Houses Quadrant Name
1st,
4th, 7th and 10th KENDRA
5th,
8th, 11th and 2nd PANAPHARA
9th,
12th, 3rd and 6th APOKLIMA
Example: Cancer Lagna
KENDRA : Cancer, Libra, Capricorn and Aries
PANAPHARA : Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus and Leo
APOKLIMA : Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius
The basis of these three quadrants arises from the understanding of the trines. From the lagna, find the first, fifth and ninth houses. The quadrants to these houses become the Kendra (first), Panaphara (fifth), and Apoklima (ninth) respectively.
These quadrants are the four pillars to the three trines and become necessary in judging the indications of a chart i.e. the 4th house from the ninth is the twelfth house and shows the happiness one achieves from fulfilling our dharma (ninth), namely good sleep and liberation from the world. Similarly the fourth house from the first shows how fulfilling our personal ideals, gives us happiness and stable mind.
LAGNA KENDRAS – 1st, 4th, 7th & 10th houses
Specifically, the quadrants to the lagna will indicate which type of personality we take on. The tenth house indicates the personality we take on due to our work and karma yoga. This house has the strongest influence on our personality. The seventh house indicating the influence of our spouse on our nature, then the fourth house, showing how our childhood experiences mold our nature, and lastly the lagna itself showing our own innate nature, follow this. The strongest planets in quadrants to the lagna will indicate our personality and nature, as well as our aspirations in life.
BHAVA CLASSIFICATION – THE FOUR TRINE’S
Introduction to the concept of Trines
The following steps will explain how to use the Bhava, by dividing them into various groups, and what the purpose of the groups are.
The Trikona or Trines are the houses placed in fifth and ninth houses from any particular house/sign. These houses share the same ideals as that of the particular sign they are in trines to. With reference to the Lagna, the fifth and ninth houses from it become the dharma trikona. Similarly, the trines to each of the four houses viz. 1st, 10th, 7th, and 4th are known as the dharma, artha, kama and moksha trikona.
Lagna trikona – 1st, 5th & 9th houses
The Trines
Houses Trikona/Trine Name
1st, 5th and 9th Dharma (goal, duty, nature)
10th, 2nd and 6th Artha (wealth, sustenance, profession)
7th, 11th and 3rd Kama (desires)
4th, 8th and 12th Moksha (liberation)
Planets or signs in the dharma trikona will show grahas who share the same ideals as the native, i.e. the ninth house shows the father, teachers, guides and elders, which all have the purpose or ideal of protecting and guiding the native’s interest. Similarly, the fifth house shows one’s followers and children whom one protects. Whether these people will also protect one’s ideals, needs to be understood from the concept of sambandha, which means relationships.
Additionally, both the fifth and ninth houses also have to do with the worship the native does, hence planets in the fifth or ninth houses will indicate worships or prayers that the native performs consciously or unconsciously for the realization of his aspirations.
