THE MOTHER AWAKENS !
VISTI LARSEN
As the Deva or Gods awoke with the Sun’s entry into Capricorn, the first to begin taking care of the kids and all necessities of the home is the Divine Mother. She begins her work in the even signs, and so also Capricorn is an even sign. Her first primary purpose is to clean the kids and provide breakfast after a long nights rest, that she barely had time to enjoy as Gaṇeśa woke her up hours earlier (Sun in Leo-to-Libra).
She does this work when the Sun travels through Capricorn and Aquarius and so also the end of the winter of the earth arises as the Sun leaves Aquarius, and the world awakens with the coming of spring as the Sun enters Pisces.
With the Sun’s entry into Pisces, we celebrate her with the spring or Vasant Navarātri, that showers abundance on earth. She is worshipped again 6 months later when the Sun enters Virgo during the Śarad Navarātri, wherein she’s woken up from the sleep she entered with the Deva during Sun’s entry into Cancer.
She carves out the 12 signs into 6 timescales, that she uses to mark the Vedic times for all actions.
In turn, these become the 6 limbs to study and approach the Veda
These are the 6 Ṛtu:
Pi, Ar – Vasant – Kalpa (Moon)
Ta, Ge – Gṛṣma – Jyotiṣa (Mars)
Cn, Le – Varṣa – Vyakaraṇa (Venus)
Vi, Li – Śarad – Sikṣa (Mercury)
Sc, Sg – Hemant – Nirukta (Jupiter)
Cp, Aq – Śiṣira – Chandas (Saturn)
*Note that the Sun is excluded as being representative of the absolute undivided light of the Veda.
**Note the planetary rulers of Moon and Venus are exchanged in other contexts.
Each of these are languages with which we can understand God. They are in themselves complete, huge and enough alone to study the will of God at any particular time… That is our purpose with Jyotish.
The graha ruling over a Ṛtu, must connect with your mind (Lagna) to help you understand God through that specific Language. Mars (or Ketu) tends to be strong in the charts of Vedic Astrologers to interpret this language of Jyotish.
It is this grace of the Divine Mother that we have a language to understand the universe, and so also her entire body was donated by Lord Śiva to form the letters of the alphabet. So also each sound of the Sanskrit alphabet is termed ‘mātra’ referring to her, the Mātṛikā or Mother.
That person in your life who taught you your first words represents that Mātṛkā, the divine mother, and the reason why many of us learn our first words as ‘mama’.
